This week’s Urban Valor episode features Marine veteran, Cris Pacheco. Cris grew up in Chino, California. His parents immigrated to the United States from Cuba and El Salvador. Cris joined the Marines as an Amphibious Assault Vehicle Crewman AKA “Tracks.”Â
He had an alcohol problem going into the Marines, which contributed to some mental health issues during his enlistment such as not being able to sleep for days at a time.Â
Although he struggled mentally, Cris still received numerous awards such as Marine of the ship, Gung Ho Marine, and meritorious mast. He leaves us with his experience of how he set himself up to succeed upon transitioning out of the military.Â
Marine Veteran Cris Pacheco is the definition of overcoming and growing.Â
From immigration to alcohol to mental health, and overcoming reconstructive jaw surgery, he's shown that he can overcome adversity and continue to thrive and succeed. We know that Chris' veteran story will help so many other veterans with overcoming their adversities and continue to keep fighting.
